It all begin in 1891 when John Springs Myers drew up plans to create a suburb from his farmland. His son-in-law, George Stephens, helped those dreams become a reality in 1911 when he hired a city planner named John Nolen to create a new vision for the land. The neighborhood was so attractive that it earned national recognition. As the years passed, the community continued to grow. In 1995, many of its buildings and homes landed a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.

The homes tend to be larger and sit on larger lots than other residences in the area. Styles range from Tudor and Georgian to colonial and Craftsman, with a few ranches and bungalows in the mix.
