Charlotte Named Best Places to Retire In 2022

There has never been a better time to be living in the Charlotte, NC metro area, especially for recent retirees. Forbes just released its top 25 cities to retire highlighting the quality of retirement living at an affordable price. Not a fan of cold weather? Most of the list is based in warmer climates!

The list was also based on housing costs, taxes, healthcare, air quality, crime, and climate change. This year the list was compiled differently due to the current inflationary pressure on retirees’ budgets.  The latest report from the National Association of Realtors found that the country’s median home price is $375,300, up 15% from a year before.

The current list has added 11 new places since its 2020 release. These newer additions are considered college towns that were knocked off due to the early days of the pandemic. Now life in these towns is back to normal offering great opportunities to learn, explore and dine.

Many flock to the Queen City known for its thriving banking and business center. Charlotte made the list due to its high number of doctors per capita which is a top priority for many retirees. The hot spot also has a good climate and air quality, and a strong economy with no state estate tax or income tax on social security. The city is expanding its greenways and outdoor spaces making it a great city to explore the outdoors. Even though the median home price is 1% above the national median at $378,000, its cost of living is %1 below the national average!

What Other Cities Made the List?
