Looking to visit the buzzing Queen City or hosting out-of-towners? Between its excellent food scene, museum exhibits, and outdoor spaces (did I mention all that sunshine?), you’ll be sure to find plenty to love about this fun southern city. With a plethora of activities and restaurants, here are some tips on how to spend the perfect 48 hours in Charlotte.
Spend Time in Uptown
There is so much rich history in downtown Charlotte including the popular arts district. It’s located in Uptown, where you can find historic buildings, world-class art galleries, and museums. The majority of this area was once known as Fourth Ward, but now it’s home to some of the best restaurants in the city (try Fin & Fino for fresh seafood or The Cellar at Duckworth’s in a classy speakeasy setting). In addition to its great dining features, there are also plenty of bars, boutiques, and other attractions to explore.
Pay attention to the great street art while walking around Uptown and end the day catching a show at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.
Go on a Brewery Tour
One of the best ways to be immersed in Charlotte’s food and drink scene is to visit some of the great breweries! Many offer live music, great brew pub, and a fun atmosphere! Start in Southend at Suffolk Punch then head over a couple of blocks to Lenny Boy. Hit Sycamore Brewery and try their infamous Mountain Candy beer. Other local favorites are Legion Brewery, NoDa Brewing Company, and the Wooden Robot Brewery.
Watch A Sports Game
Charlotte is home to the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets, Nascar, and the newest MLS addition, Charlotte FC. Visiting during the warmer months? Catch a game at the Charlotte Knights, a Triple-A minor league baseball team with beautiful views of Uptown.
A Night Out on the Town
When the sun starts to go down, treat yourself to the famous Haymaker restaurant that serves up farm-to-table cuisine. After dinner, end the night at one of the many rooftop bars such as Merchant and Trade, Aura Rooftop, or Fahrenheit. Pro tip: get to one of these rooftops at twilight for great views and awesome pics!
Explore the Outdoors
Charlotte’s walkability and outdoor experiences are one of its many perks while exploring the city. Walk along the rail trail in Southend stopping at one of Charlotte’s newest murals or create your own candle at Paddywax Candle Bar. Get your shopping fix at Atherton Mill then grab lunch at Trolley Barn where you can enjoy views of the city skyline.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, explore the many greenways and trails that expand over 22 miles throughout the city and beyond. A popular trail is the skyline trail that includes the Romare Bearden Park featuring a lighted waterfall. Another popular destination is Freedom Park in the historic Dilworth district.
Visit Camp North End
Spend part of your day at Camp North End in NoDa which is filled with galleries, walkable pathways, food stalls, a bar, and so much more. Grab a pick-me-up at HEX Coffee and explore shops such as Good Postage which sells greeting cards to fun art prints and supplies.
Ending the Perfect Weekend
Unwind at the Goodyear House in NoDa, a cozy Southern eatery with fabulous vibes, creative Southern fare, and renowned cocktails. After the long and adventurous weekend, you’ll find there is still so much more to uncover!
There are many fun things to do in Charlotte, it would be impossible to list them all. Don’t miss the chance to explore this great city when you’re visiting the area!
