A Look at Charlotte’s River District

Charlotte continues to remain as one of the fastest-growing cities with exciting new developments and residents wanting to call the Queen City home. One of those developments is the River District in West Charlotte. This area nestled between the Catawba River and the airport will be known as the ‘The Soul of a city in the heart of Nature.’

The vision for the new community will be one that is a “dynamic live, work, and play environment with a real sense of place.” There will be a large emphasis on using the space for nature and enhancing the quality of life. By using trails and tree-lined streets, this will not only connect commerce, homes, schools, parks, and public spaces but also promote an active lifestyle.

The project is expected to take a few decades to finish. You can expect a “Tremendous amount of employment opportunity. A tremendous amount of residential growth,” Chase Kerley, managing director for Crescent Communities, said. Additionally, included in the plan will be affordable housing options for residents.

There will also be a huge emphasis on protecting the environment and creating sustainable practices. To create positive changes for the future, climate change and overall wellness are a priority. Crescent Communities want to invest in an environment that will promote physical and emotional well-being in hopes of a happier and healthier lifestyle.

A few recreational activities will be available for anyone who visits or are a tenant. There will be a main street offering retail, civic, office, and entertainment options such as a fresh market, outdoor dining, and music venues. The river access will allow kayaking and canoeing, and other outdoor activities such as biking and hiking.

The district will expand to over 1,400 acres in its unique location. With just a short drive from Uptown, this area will draw many to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life to a natural landscape.
