It sits just 25 miles north of Charlotte and right along the western shores of Lake Norman, offering its residents a perfect balance of work opportunities and water adventure. The town is known as much for its NASCAR and big business connections as its beautiful scenery. Welcome to Mooresville.
Interstate 77 runs right through Mooresville, making it convenient for commuters who work in Charlotte and other nearby cities. The number of new homes in the area is just one indication of how quickly the area is expanding, but even with the new growth, Mooresville is still something of a laid-back lake town. If you prefer something a little more fast-paced, however, you might like to know that over 60 NASCAR teams and businesses make their home in Mooresville. For this reason, the town has earned the nickname "Race City, USA."
Mooresville's roots date back to the mid-1700s when prominent English, Scot-Irish, and German families moved to the area from Virginia, Pennsylvania, and other parts of North Carolina. They sought fertile farmland and found it. A century later, the area was home to numerous cotton plantations, some of which still stand today. Just before the Civil War, a farmer named John Franklin Moore helped turn the area into a prosperous railroad town called Moore's Siding. Before his death, Moore incorporated the town of Mooresville in 1873, and the area has grown ever since.
Most people who visit Mooresville do so to experience the local racing culture, and the racing-oriented attractions do not disappoint. But it's not all about NASCAR. Golf, shopping, history, and fun on Lake Norman are a few of the reasons why residents love this family-friendly town. For those who like to dine out, Mooresville is home to dozens of restaurants, ranging from casual, downhome barbecue joints to upscale steakhouses and international cuisine.
While Mooresville has deep historic roots, it is home to plenty of new construction, ranging from multi-million-dollar mansions to classic one-story ranch-style homes. Because of its location on Lake Norman, waterfront homes are popular in the area. Some condos and townhomes are also available.
